Every day, I get asked this question, "When am I going to be done with Braces?".
This question is interesting because even if we told someone, they would need braces for 18 months, they will start asking this question after the first six months. Braces are a process, but there are things you can do to speed up treatment.
Check out this blog if you want to speed up your Orthodontic treatment.
Not missing appointments seems like an obvious trick, but people rarely make it to every visit. I remember when I had braces, I did not miss a single appointment. I knew they were necessary, and I wanted my braces off!
Not everyone wants their braces off as fast as possible, but this is one easy technique that is so simple that it can speed up treatment. Every visit, we are doing something specific to your teeth so you cannot miss appointments. We are even open some Saturdays, so there should be no excuse to miss an appointment.
You will seem me telling every patient they need to wear their rubber bands more. A few select patients are just fantastic at wearing their rubber bands, and they finish very fast. I'm always surprised at how well rubber bands work when patients wear them correctly.
The problem with wearing them just half the time is nothing happens. You wear them for let's say 12 hours a day, and for the other 12, you don't. What happens is for those first twelve hours you are making progress, then for the additional 12, all that progress just relapses back. What occurs as a result is nothing! That's right; if you only wear your rubber bands half time or less, not much at all is happening because your teeth are continually relapsing back to their original position.
Keeping your teeth clean is just lovely of you to do for us, so we get to look at clean teeth instead of teeth filled with yesterday’s lunch. And if you don't care about us well, then at least know that clean teeth move faster. If your teeth are inflamed and have gingivitis, they are harder to move.
There are times when we are trying to close spaces, but the gums are too puffy, so we cannot close the spaces properly. The gums are not inflamed because of the braces; they are inflamed due to lack of proper brushing and flossing.
You should always invest in an electric toothbrush. An electric toothbrush will be the best investment of your life as it will save you thousands on dental work and time with your braces.
Waterpiks are fine, but nothing is as good as good old fashion brushing and flossing.
There are a lot of things you can do to speed up your braces treatment. If you come to all of your appointments, keep your teeth clean and wear your rubber bands properly, you will be well on your way to shortening your treatment time.
