Taking yourself to the dentist can sometimes be hard enough unless you've been to our offices with our calming music, smells, and Netflix in every operatory. Yet the real question is when to take your child to their children's dentist or pediatric dentist. At our Allen, TX, location, we accept children as young as six months old.
"6 months old!" you say, "that seems young, and my kid doesn't even have teeth!". Well, let me explain why.
We like to prioritize oral health from an early age. Studies show the more familiar children are with their oral health and their pediatric dentist, the less likely they are to have traumatic dental issues.
Coming to the office at a younger age means that we can still perform a brief check on your child to make sure there are no apparent issues. We help Mom and Dad learn about oral care and guide them along their journey with their child's brushing.
Our typical visit when a child is six months is relatively quick. We always have the parents in the room, and typically the child is sitting on the parent’s lap. Our dentists take a look inside the child's mouth to make sure there are no issues. This gets babies used to the dentist and used to having their teeth/gums looked at. This visit is covered by most insurance, so there is no payment burden for the parents.
Some of the main issues we have found in Allen are that the children may have a tongue tie, have sores in their mouths, or even candidiasis (fungus).
Your children's dentist can tell if there are issues because the fungus is typically white and wipeable. The sores could be due to malnutrition or just teeth trying to erupt.
